Christoph Grunenberg departs as gallery forced to make redundancies

The director of Tate Liverpool, Christoph Grunenberg, is leaving the gallery after a decade in which he has staged exhibitions by artists including Klimt, Picasso and Matisse. He is joining the Kunsthalle Bremen gallery in Germany. Grunenberg was chair of the the Turner Prize judging panel in 2007, when the ceremony was held at Tate Liverpool. The announcement follows news this week that the gallery is to make an unspecified number of redundancies. On Tuesday, the gallery said it would look at ways to make Tate Liverpool run more efficiently and review the number of front-of-house staff.
